Kaveri Sankramana is one of the 3 most important festivals of the Kodava people. They worship the River Kaveri (Cauvery) and every year, dressed in their traditional attire, the Kodavas make a pilgrimage by walking from the base at a place called Bhagamandala 8km uphill to the source of the river at Talakaveri, accompanied by traditional drummers called the 'dudee kott'. At a particular pre-determined time the Goddess Kaveri bubbles at its source descending in the form of holy water or ‘tirtha’. I was privileged to take part in this pilgrimage which began at 8.30pm till we reached the peak just past midnight
